Goals in Relationships
The He-Man Woman Haters Club is filled with boys who share a bond of being manly and not liking girls. Spanky directs the little rascals in every activity. There is a clip of Spanky entering the clubhouse, almost as if he is mayor, to lead a meeting. Spanky and the rascals have self-presentational goals. “The most common objective of persuasion is selling ourselves.”[11] The little rascals do a number of activities and bonding to ensure they are all worthy of being ‘he-man woman haters.’ The members of the club have to be worried about their image, so they can still be a part of the group.

Skills Used to Develop Relationships
Spanky and Alfalfa have a rocky relationship throughout the whole film. Through plenty of ups and downs, they continued to build their relationship. Early in the movie, Alfalfa would be the only person to self-disclose, while Spanky would be showing the negative assertion to Alfalfa’s liking of girls. Not until the end of the film after they win the race, did Spanky show Alfalfa emotional support. He finally accepted that Alfalfa likes girls, and he even started like girls himself. In the text, Guerrero states, “Effective emotional support also entails being warm and responsive to others rather than trying to tell people what to do.”[12] Spanky quit telling Alfalfa how he should live his life and truly understood his viewpoints. From there, their relationship skyrocketed.
